West Virginia State Continuing Education Renewal Requirements

All active nail technicians, aestheticians, hairstylists, and waxing specialists are required to earn a minimum of four (4) hours of continuing education credits annually.

However, after an active nail technician, aesthetician, hairstylist, or waxing specialist has been licensed and/or certified for twenty (20) years or more are exempt from completing four (4) hours of continuing education annually, but must continue to take a three (3) hour sanitation course every other year.

When a barber or cosmetologist has been licensed and in practice for ten (10) years, that barber or cosmetologist will not be required to complete any continuing education other than a three (3) hour sanitation class every other year for a period of ten (10) years.

Effective July 6, 2017, all active barbers and cosmetologists that have been in practice for twenty (20) years or more are exempt from the continuing education requirement.

Florida State Continuing Education Requirements

Only continuing education courses offered by a provider approved by the Florida State Board of Cosmetology will be accepted for credit needed for the renewal of your cosmetology license.
The Florida State Board requires that you complete 10 hours of continuing education before your license can be renewed.

The license renewal deadline is October 31, 2021 for odd years and October 31, 2022 for even years. Check your license for the expiration date.

160 hours of Continuing Education must include these courses for license renewal:
1 hour HIV/AIDS - Communicable Diseases Awareness
3 hours Sanitation and Sterilization
.5 hour OSHA
.5 hour Workers’ Compensation
2 hours State and Federal Laws and Rules
1 hour Chemical Makeup
1 hour Environmental Issues
1 hour about any subject related to the practice of cosmetology.

When you successfully complete a course on AwakenYourBeautiful.com, you will earn Certificate of Completion. Please download and print each certificate. Keep one for your records and submit a copy of each Certificate of Completion to the Florida State Board with your license renewal application.

Remember the total number of continuing education credit represented by the certificate must equal at least the state’s minimum requirement of 16 hours.

Iowa State Continuing Education Requirements

A licensee shall obtain a minimum of 6 hours of continuing education credit every two years.
A minimum of 4 hours of the 6 hours of continuing education shall be in each prescribed practice discipline.
Two hours of continuing education per biennium must be specific to Iowa cosmetology law and administrative rules including infection control.

North Carolina State Continuing Education Requirements

North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners requires licensees to complete a minimum of eight (8) continuing education hours per year of the license cycle.
When you renew every three (3) years that's twenty-four (24) continuing education hours per renewal period.
At least 50 percent of the subject matter needs to expand the knowledge of cosmetology.
Licensees should maintain records of course title, description, date, address of location and number of hours earned.
