What People Are Saying...

“I hear a lot of mothers telling stories that don’t add up. I can tell they are concerned, but don’t know what is going on with their kids. And for me, I tell them the truth that it sounds like addiction and they need to get into a program, support group, and counseling. The family needs to put a plan together and take action before it’s too late.”
-- Rio T., No Label Salon Owner, Zionsville, Indiana

"I thinks it’s important for everyone to know about the opioid epidemic, because being aware of the signs of addiction could ultimately save someone’s life. Women will talk to their hairstylist about anything so, it’s important for that person doing hair to know where to get help. "
-- Jenny O., Hairstylist, Sanibel Island, Florida

"Continuing Education is very important to us as cosmetologists and estheticians, because the world is forever evolving. In order to keep up, we must continue our education. There are so many things behind the scenes. We need to be a forever students and always try to better ourselves in our profession." -- Emily B., Educator, Aveda Institute, Indianapolis

Lucinda has been a licensed cosmetologist for over 30 years and a licensed instructor for 20 years. Frequently Asked Questions

In our business, our clients tell us everything! I don't know why, but they do. Your client might talk about a spouse or child using drugs. Talking about substance abuse can be very uncomfortable for you, the beauty professional... BUT you may have an opportunity to help without getting directly involved. • A client told me about a drug problem in her family. I wanted to help, but my salon manager worried that I might get involved. Was she right?

As a beauty professional, you develop a close, special relationship with each client. When your client has a problem, it's natural to want to help. That's why we at Awaken Your Beauty recommend that your follow 3 steps: Listen! Communicate with information! Step Back so you don't get directly involved physically or emotionally.
